In a country of over 120 million in population, it is almost certainyou will be lost in the crowd if you don't stand out excellently in whatever you do. your success in life will depend on who knows what you do and who seeks you. never expect or assume people should know what you have when you actually need to tell them. the more people know you for something and are willing to do business with you, the more branded you become.
Meaning of Branding
How do we define a brand? Let me say this, your brand is not your logo, mission statement or motto which you put on your letterhead. in fact, your brand is your connection and relationship with people. According to McNally and speak, your brand is a perception or emotion, maintained by somebody other than you, which describes the total experience of having a relationship with you. simply put,
1. it is a connection or relationship between you and certain people who share similare values and aspirations with you.
2. it is whate people believe or feel you can offer based on their personal experience with you. so, it is not about what you actually can offer. that is why you must make every encounter you have with people count. let me say it this way, always make sure you over prepare for every occasion. if you are asked to come and deliver a speech somewhere,don't just deliver based on the class of people you expect to meet there -over deliver! you know why? there could be somebody there who may just be the destiny link to your desired destination.
3. it is wha you tell people to expect from you which is expressed by what you do and how you do it. if you don't want people to expect wrong things from you, stop doing them. if you are arrogant you are telling people to always expect pride from you. if it is quality you want them to expect, go aheead and deliver quality as a culture.
Purpose of Branding:
Uniqueness:- One of the reasons why you must be branded is that God created you uniquely and expects you to contribute your uniqueness to our world.
Nobody carries the same fingerprint with you worldwide. so you've got something original to deliver to your generation. this is what you can't afford to deliver anyhow but in aunique brand.
Expectation:- To tell or show people what to expect from you always. if you stand for nothing you will fall for everything. so, be known for something. Do you know that when you are branded you begin to shape the of people that come to you? John Maxell says "you will always attract who you are, not who you want."
Connection:- To create a long and strong connection between you and people. when you are known for something, people that share the same values with you will identify you.
Elements in Branding:-There are five basic elements that form every brand.
1. Knowledge:- If people don't know you, your product or service, you can never be branded before them. first of all, people must know about you and what you offer. therefore, let your light shine to the people by advertising yourself, your product or service.
2. Trust:- Let people trust your delivery ability. it will shock you to know that products that are trusted are usually more expensive and people will still go for them in the market. this implies that there can be a higher value on your life if you are trusted. people will only hire you if they trust you. if you want a high pay, make people trust you the more.
3. if people don't like you or your product you will be the only one buying from yourself. stop saying i don't care whether they like it or not. you must make them like it. it matters alot.
Remember:- Can people remember you long after they've come in contact with you? can people remember they've had experience with your product? if not, then you can't make a strong brand.
Value:- Are you valued? you only make a strong brand when people are willing to pay and have you at all cost. Value is what makes people travel Across the ocean to engage somebody's service. do your best to always deliver above expectation!
Finally, never forget that people are always willy to pay higher price for products or for people they know, trust, like, remember and value.
